Which are the best solar panels and the TÜV PV+Test results?
Solar panels and PV+Test
Today, the only one 100% independent test that makes tests on the solar panels that are reached by the end customer is the PV + Test, made by the German certifier TÜV.
Taking into consideration, the classification of this test is vital to have the security that your photovoltaic system will obtain the expected performance, among other things.
Some of the 11 brands of solar panels that have authorized, for the moment (2016-2017), the publication of the results of the PV + Test are: SolarWorld, SHARP, Solon, Schott, Conergy, Sovello …
The result of the tests of the best solar panels, in order of maximum quality are:
|April 2013||92.29||Excelent||SolarWorld||SW260 Poly|
|Feb 2011||91.3||Excelent (-)||Schott||Schott Poly 290|
|Feb 2011||90.7||Excelent (-)||SHARP solar||NU-180E1|
|March 2012||89.8||Good (+)||IBC||IBC Monosol 240 ET|
|Feb 2011||89.0||Good (+)||Mitsubishi Electric||PV-TD185MF5|
|Feb 2011||88.1||Good (+)||Conergy||PowerPlus 225P|
|Feb 2011||80.0||Good (-)||Perfect Solar||PS230-6P-TOP|
It is no coincidence that there is almost no absolute lack of Asian solar panels brands, the vast majority of Chinese / Asian brands do not achieve the minimum quality required.
The PV + Test scores range from the highest grade, which is Excellent, to Very Poor. In each grade, depending on the results, you can carry (+) or (-) as intermediate grades.
Undoubtedly, the PV + Test, should be a very point to consider when defining the pv module to install in a pv system.
In response to the question of What is the best solar panel in the world? It is very evident, the best solar panel in the world is SolarWorld, followed closely by Schott and SHARP Solar.
We should also bear in mind that we are talking about the best solar panels on the market with standard polycrystalline and monocrystalline technology. If we expand the vision to any type of technology, we would find that the best solar panel on the market would be Panasonic Sanyo solar panels, with high efficiency HIT technology.
In other words:
If we look for the best panel in the market using standard technology, the most outstanding is SolarWorld. If we look for the best panel of any technology, then Panasonic Sanyo would be the most outstanding. They are the two best solar panel brands that we can find today in the solar photovoltaic market.
You can check these and other data on the TÜV website.
What does PV+Test consist?
It can be summarized in the following points:
- It is an independent test made with crystalline solar panels in collaboration with TÜV Rheinland SOLARPRAXIS and purchased directly from the market. That is, it is TÜV Rheinland who anonymously purchase the samples in the real market (no doubt this is the most important).
- A committee of experts decide which aspects to be analyzed are the most important to consider in the PV + Test and relevance is given to each of them. Are the rules of the game that set the general protocol test.
- Any manufacturer may request to be evaluated in the PV + Test.
- After the test, each manufacturer is informed of the results, with the quality level obtained, and the manufacturer decides whether or not to make public the results.
- The results are published from time to time in the PT-Magazine, the website of TÜV Rheinland, etc..
To summarize, in the words of one responsible for TÜV Rheinland, the objective of this test is “Unwrap the dust from the chaff” and therefore, TÜV Rheinland purchase samples in the real market for later analysis. You could say that what is intended is that the test results of the panels are coming to the end customer, not the manufacturer sends to analyze.
How many brands have been analyzed and what are the results?
So far 21 wellknown brands have been analyzed, but only 11 of these, the best solar panels scored, have authorized the release of the data, the rest of them chose not to display the results.
How can we check the difference in a real case?
Always the best way to check what is better and what is worst, is to see data about a real case. So, below we show you the performance data about a solar PV plant, in Greece, at same location, one project beside the other:
Project 1 With SolarWorld panel:
Solar Panel: SolarWorld SW235poly
Mounting structure: Fixed at 30
Shading: Partly in winter time
Total capacity: 9,87kWp
Energy production: 10068kWh or 1020.06kWh/kWp
Project 2 with Chinese Top Brand panel:
Solar Panel: Chinese Top Brand 250W
Mounting structure: Fixed at 30
Total capacity: 10kWp
Energy production: 9680kWh or 968 kWh/kWp
These data was from one of our clients in Greece, so, as you can see, SolarWorld performance in much better than Chinese one, although SolarWorld PV plant has a partial shadow in winter, the performance is 5% better. Both PV plants are located at same place.
So, as can be seen, the list made by TÜV with the best solar panels in the pv market is realistic and one of the best references for your pv project.
